A career in medicine is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable achievable. Having the capability to help lots of individuals every year whether it’s in the role of nurse, doctor or surgeon is the hope of the thousands of individuals who enrol in medical school every year. The reward for completing a medicinal degree is a long and fulfilling career in one of the most respected industries in the planet.

It is worth remembering that although a career in medicine is immensely rewarding it is not for one and all. It will take a bare minimum of 5 years study at a school of medicine to become qualified as a doctor and additional study if you want to enter a specialized area of medicine. The courses as you would expect are much tougher than a standard university degree and there is more pressure on you to do well. Practical work makes up a considerable part of the later years of study and the hours that you toil for little or no reward will be long and demanding.

A mainstream curriculum for a 5 year program at a university of medicine would be comprised of 40 weeks of Foundation study concerning classes in a large range of subjects including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and immunology. This would be followed by 80 weeks of Pre-clinical work focusing on the major body systems such as: respiratory, cardiovascular, reproductive, renal and nervous systems. The final part of study at med school would be 80 weeks of study and toil in the Clinical part where students would set their preceding 3 years of study to applied use in hospitals and practice based settings to achieve hands on experience of patient treatment.

If you are seeking to start a career in medicine there are lots of medicine based universities to pick from all around the earth. There can be advantages and disadvantages with all of them and the one you go for will depend on your location and the discipline of medicine that you want to enter. Studying a medical degree abroad can hold the benefit of being cheaper than you would locate in your own nation and hand you the experience of a different culture and the opportunity to study a new language.
